My name is Matthew Johnson, and I’m a photographer, videographer, editor, and communications professional passionate about capturing authentic stories, meaningful moments, and the environments and people that shape them. From outdoor adventures and climbing culture to conservation, real estate, music, sports, and community-driven projects, I strive to create work that feels genuine, cinematic, and emotionally grounded.

My background in environmental studies and environmental communications has heavily shaped the way I approach storytelling. I studied at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), where I focused on communications, media, and digital marketing while developing a deeper understanding of conservation, climate issues, environmental policy, and the relationship between people and the natural world. That perspective continues to influence both my creative work and the types of stories I’m drawn to tell.

I’ve worked across a wide range of industries and creative spaces over the years, including marketing management for real estate brands, nonprofit storytelling, outdoor and climbing media, podcast production, sports photography, documentary-style filmmaking, and social media strategy.

 

I’ve worked with organizations including MTNBuff Real Estate, Niagara Climbing Center, The Gentle Barn Foundation, and I now serve as the Communications Coordinator for the Utah Department of Natural Resources Division of Water Rights, helping communicate complex information related to water rights, policy, and public resources in a more clear and accessible way.

My creative journey started when I was eight years old after picking up a camera for the first time and becoming fascinated with wildlife and landscape photography. Since then, storytelling has become the foundation of everything I create.
